2001
WISANGER HILLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON |
|
| Colour |
Deep
red, bright and clear - very typical of Cape d'Estaing wines. |
| Nose |
Leafy,
berried cabernet complemented by gently spicy/cedary oak. |
| Palate |
The
palate is medium bodied but with an initial burst of flavour
which carries through and lingers pleasantly. Flavours include
chocolate, cassis and, from the oak, cedar and spice. Tannins
are soft and give a nice lean dryness to the finish. |
| Oak |
French
(53%) and American. 75% hogsheads and 25% barriques. 85% of
barrels had been once-used. |
| Aging
Potential |
This
is a wine which drinks very nicely now, at the time of writing,
but has enough flavour body and structure to improve at least
until 2006. |
| Growing
Season |
2000/2001
was a wonderful growing season. We had quite a wet spring which
was followed by an early, warm and dry summer. The season was
disease-free. Cabernet sauvignon was picked on 19th March at
about 13.7°Bé. |
