1998
SHIRAZ |
| Colour |
Very
dark, opaque, dense. Very much a wine that stains the glass
|
| Nose |
Aromas
of blackberry jam, with cassis, vanillin and plums. Gentle but
effective oak complements the fruit aromas. |
| Palate |
Very
rich, concentrated flavours fill the mouth and then linger.
Ripe, berried, spicy and plummy and now in 2003 starting to
show much more complexity. Developing beautifully. |
| Oak |
This
wine was aged in predominantly American oak. Approx 90% was
new. |
| Aging
Potential |
The
wine will continue to improve for another few years and will
certainly go on for another 10. |
| Growing
Season |
1997/1998
was a very good growing season. Spring was cool and moist and
led to a dry warm long summer. Crop levels were small and the
fruit was magnificent - small bunches, small very dark berries
and huge flavour. The shiraz was harvested in the first week
of March at just over 14° Bé. |
