1998 SHIRAZ

Colour

Very dark, opaque, dense. Very much a wine that stains the glass
Nose Aromas of blackberry jam, with cassis, vanillin and plums. Gentle but effective oak complements the fruit aromas.
Palate Very rich, concentrated flavours fill the mouth and then linger. Ripe, berried, spicy and plummy and now in 2003 starting to show much more complexity. Developing beautifully.
Oak This wine was aged in predominantly American oak. Approx 90% was new.
Aging Potential The wine will continue to improve for another few years and will certainly go on for another 10.
Growing Season 1997/1998 was a very good growing season. Spring was cool and moist and led to a dry warm long summer. Crop levels were small and the fruit was magnificent - small bunches, small very dark berries and huge flavour. The shiraz was harvested in the first week of March at just over 14° Bé.
