2002
WISANGER HILLS SHIRAZ |
| Colour |
Deep,
bright red with youthful purples still showing. |
| Nose |
Lifted
cassis, strawberries etc. Quite voluminous! Still some dusty
oak which needs to integrate. |
| Palate |
The
berries dominate in a palate which is refined and more elegant
than previous vintages. There are fine supporting tannins and
oak showing up well. |
| Oak |
54%
French oak / 45% American. Approx 82 % new oak, balance three
years and older. |
| Aging
Potential |
Will
take a little while yet to integrate properly. It will be more
forward in development than most Cape d'Estaings, but will refine
further and mature very well for several years. |
| Growing
Season |
2001/2002
was a very trying growing season. Spring was cold and wet and
more importantly long. As a result, fruit set was poor and crops
very low indeed. However, berry size was small and colour and
flavour of the fruit was very good. Shiraz was harvested on
10th March at 13.8 - 14.0° Bé. |
