2001
SHIRAZ CABERNET SAUVIGNON |
| Colour |
Dense, dark, with vibrant
hues. |
| Nose |
Strong influences from
the shiraz plums and berries with lifted oak aromas coming through
very attractively. |
| Palate |
This is rich and flavoursome,
and it is here that the cabernet sauvignon flavours of chocolate
and cassis shine through and linger. Tannins are fine-grained
and the oak adds structure and length as well as its distinctive
spice and vanillin. |
| Oak |
65% French, with the
balance American. 76% hogsheads and 24% barriques. Approx 75%
new oak. 17months in barrel. |
| Aging
Potential |
As with all the Cape
d'Estaing wines, this wine will continue to develop slowly and
gracefully. It will become more complex soft and round as the
years go by, and will be at its most attractive stage in about
2007-2010 |
| Growing
Season |
2000/2001 was a wonderful
growing season. We had quite a wet spring which was followed
by an early, warm and dry summer. The season was disease-free.
Fruit ripened easily to 14.0 - 14.5° Bé and was picked
between 11th and 19th March. |
