2001 SHIRAZ

Colour

Very deep red - dark, opaque. Heavy, glass-staining.
Nose Very lifted ripe and forward, showing generous plummy shiraz notes with plenty of complementary oak.
Palate This is big and full, with rich lingering shiraz flavours such as spice, plums and berry fruits. The structure is solid and complete with the still youthful tannins providing a solid backbone.
Oak 60% French, with the balance American. 80% hogsheads and 20% barriques. 78% new oak. 17months in oak.
Aging Potential This is a wine which will mature beautifully over 10-15 years. It has great flavour and a very good ripe firm structure which will really benefit from time in bottle.
Growing Season 2000/2001 was a wonderful growing season. We had quite a wet spring which was followed by an early, warm and dry summer. The season was disease-free. Fruit ripened easily to 14.4° Bé and was picked on 12th March.
