2001
SHIRAZ |
| Colour |
Very
deep red - dark, opaque. Heavy, glass-staining. |
| Nose |
Very
lifted ripe and forward, showing generous plummy shiraz notes
with plenty of complementary oak. |
| Palate |
This
is big and full, with rich lingering shiraz flavours such as
spice, plums and berry fruits. The structure is solid and complete
with the still youthful tannins providing a solid backbone. |
| Oak |
60%
French, with the balance American. 80% hogsheads and 20% barriques.
78% new oak. 17months in oak. |
| Aging
Potential |
This
is a wine which will mature beautifully over 10-15 years. It
has great flavour and a very good ripe firm structure which
will really benefit from time in bottle. |
| Growing
Season |
2000/2001
was a wonderful growing season. We had quite a wet spring which
was followed by an early, warm and dry summer. The season was
disease-free. Fruit ripened easily to 14.4° Bé and
was picked on 12th March. |
